A native Nebraskan, Samantha Noonan has been described to have "an impressive vocal range and technical skill... her tone twinkle(s) with brilliance" (Opera Wire, 2023). Ms. Noonan graduated from St. Olaf College in the spring of 2017, earning her B.M. in Vocal Performance. While at St. Olaf, she studied under Anna Mooy and was active in the St. Olaf Lyric Theater. Alongside her opera performances, Ms. Noonan was a three year member of the St. Olaf Choir under the direction of Dr. Anton Armstrong. After graduating from undergrad, she spent a year performing at the University of Minnesota Opera Theatre and singing in VocalEssence Ensemble (directed by Philip Brunelle). In the summer of 2018, Ms. Noonan served as an artist in the Canto Vocal Program in Louisville, Kentucky.
Ms. Noonan has flourished many roles such as First Lady in Die Zauberflöte, and Idamante in Idomeneo. She has also thrived in her opera scene performances of the Second Niece in Peter Grimes and Agathe in Der Freischütz.
Ms. Noonan moved to New York City in January 2019 and became involved in the Canto Winter Workshop. Since then, she has sung in Manhattan Opera Summer Studio Festival which included performing the role of First Lady in Die Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart and performing as a soloist at the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. Ms. Noonan also sang in the Chicago Summer Opera Program (2019).
In the 2020-2021, Ms. Noonan participated in several Canto Opera Online Studio programs, featuring feedback auditions for distinguished guests such as Dean Williamson (Nashville Opera - Music Director), Barbara Lynne Jamison (Kentucky Opera - General Director), Steven Osgood (Chautauqua Opera - General and Artistic Director), James Robinson (Opera Theatre of St. Louis - Artistic Director) and Grant Leohnig (Wolf Trap Opera - Music Director, Studio Artist Program). She also was a featured artist in several Canto Opera Program Concerts via zoom.
In Fall 2023, Ms. Noonan entered graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music in Vocal Studies under the tutelage of Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. She will be making her debut in the role of the Rooster/Jay in Janaček's Cunning Little Vixen in April 2023.
